Hello everyone,
and welcome to day 19 of the Advent Calendar.
And today, it’s finally time for one of the most beloved Advent Calendar traditions of all:
Break Day
Hooray :).
And if you’re new to the calendar… yes, this really is a cherished tradition!
We’ll do precicely nothing today, which gives us all a bit of time to catch a breath or catch up, before we go on the final stretch of the calendar.
One quick little bit of house keeping though:
Recently, a few people have renewed their membership, the charge went through, but the membership never actually activated. It seems like there is an issue with Paypal, but I’m not sure yet, how it happens and why. It’s only been a couple of instances, so it’s not really consistent.
But if that happened to you, please do let me know and I’ll activate your membership!
So, that’s it!
Have a great day whatever you do – working, travelling, preparing family Christmas, getting presents or just going outside to touch some grass, snow or sand. Or concrete.
I’m in Budapest by the way, so if you’re here, let me know and we can have a beer.
Bis morgen!!

Going to Budapest next September, and am very excited for the trip!
It’s a great city – very vibrant and urban and there is a LOT of nice second hand shopping.
The baths are a bit overrated imo, but I’m a fan of Finish sauna, and the Budapest sauna rooms suck in comparison.
Also, Gellert bath gets VERY noisy with tourists in the afternoon. It’s a bunch of completely tiled out big rooms, so the echo is crazy.
Jó mulatást Budapesten! Viel Spaß in Budapest!
Hallo Emanuel.

Ahh, thanks a lot.
Most of them are actually on purpose, because they don’t really have any “substance” but instead are announcements or reviews. Do you think they should be markable too?
Well, those are two different points. In all the posts I linked, the button is supposed to be there, but is missing, and this is a technical issue. In fact, hovering over the circled question mark shows a tooltip referencing the button.
As for having a button at all or not, the majority of them should go without, since as you say they are not “learnable” topics. However, the advent calendar ones (4 of them, if I counted correctly) definitely should have the button, since they are tracked separately in the progress section of users’ profile page. In addition, the “AI Pronunciation Practice” is an exercise, so it might have one as well. Maybe also the one about recycling? I seem to remember other posts about German culture, but I cannot find a specific one right now to point to.
On the other hand, there are a few posts that do not have a “Done” button, but might deserve one. For example, https://yourdailygerman.com/frohe-weihnachten/ where the “German-Cases-Weird-Chart” debuted (by the way, link on that page points to an empty PDF). I’m sure there are others like that one that I am missing right now.
Hope this helps
Wenn ich eingeloggt bin, dann sehe ich keinen “Done”. Aber wenn ich nicht eingeloggt bin, dann sehe ich einen. Das passiert nur am #19 und mit beiden Safari und DuckDuckGo Browser.
Ah, okay. Sollte jetzt funktionieren.
Ja, danke.
Hi Emanuel
Out of curiosity, how many languages do you know like German and English?
None besides those two. I speak some French, some Italian, some Bulgarian and some very basic Finish, but it’s all lightyears away from anything fluent.
Budapest! Jo napot kívánok! Tizennégy! Budapest szép város! (Hungarian is not going great btw, I went too hard on it and then I developed a kind of allergic reaction where seeing Hungarian writing at all pissed me off…)
Have a great time, what a cool city!
Lol, you binged and now your body is like “Nah, thank you.” :D
Yes, my subscription wasn’t activated either but I had paid with credit card. Must be a different glitch.
Might be the same, I just assumed it was Paypal.
You’re membership is active now, though, right?
Hallo!
Great! Have a great time in Budapest, I’ve heard it’s a beautiful city :)
Bis morgen!
