ChatGPT Sentence Correction Tool
Welcome to my ChatGPT sentence correction tool – a quick check to see if what you’ve written is proper German and get some insight over mistakes.
Just enter a German sentence or short text you want to check and GPT will fix the mistakes and give you translation as well.
Please note:
- ChatGPT is not perfect. It may overlook mistakes and sometimes even mention invent one.
- If there are too many mistakes at once, it might only find a part of them.
- If there are no mistakes, ChatGPT might call something a mistake that actually is correct.
- Sometimes, a spelling mistakes can throw the system off balance. The word “bir” for instance may be interpreted as “dir” and not “Bier”. So if you get a weird output, try modifying your sentence a bit.
It’s a good guide but… have a grain of salt on hand.
I too am having problems on my laptop with the ChatGPT Sentence Correction Tool. I keep getting ‘Something went wrong. Please try again.’ It is one of the few features that I use repeatedly on your site.
I was out of credits and had to buy more. And a few days ago, a model I was using was retired silently so none of thee tools were working for a few days. Should be back up now, sorry for that.
I have just spent 5 days copyediting a professional treatise draft in English that included someone not knowing that criteria is plural and that the singular in the US is commonly criterion and not criterium, so forgive me please for noting the following in your description:
“It may overlook mistakes and sometimes even [DELETE: mention] invent one.”
“If there are too many mistakes at once, it might only find SOME of them.”
“Sometimes, a spelling MISTAKE can throw the system off balance.”
Side thought – to ease the burden on your AI budget, is it possible to develop and market a module that people can buy and add to their AI tool, so that they pay you for the development and then pay for their own AI usage? Just thinking…
the writing correction tool doesn’t seem to be working! I enter the text and click on ‘check text’ and nothing happens. I’ve been using it successfully for months. :(((
That’s a caching issue. I have updated the tool and added a follow up question option. Are you on mobile or laptop/desktop?
It’ll solve itself with time, but you can speed it up via the browser if you’re not on mobile.
I’m using a desktop. What do you mean ‘speed it up via the browser’? I’ve cleared the history and cache files – just for the past 24 hours .. maybe that’s not enough? Anyway, I just the correction tool again and it’s still not working .. for me anyway :(
That’s what I meant actually. That should technically solve it. Could you try ctrl+f5 (windows)?
It works on my computer on all browsers and logged in and logged out.
Do you know how to read developer console? If yes, could you tell me what it says there?
I use a Linux os. I tried ctrl+f5 anyway and it did something but it still doesn’t work. “Do you know how to read developer console? ” is that the view page source? … the answer to your question is ‘no’. :) If no one else has mentioned this no longer working, maybe it’s just my computer … however it DID work … and was very handy.
okay … I just checked the other AI things you have and none of them work for me. So it must be my computer. waaaa. I’ll try the cache thing again.
Could you try an incognito window?
It makes no sense to me that the other tools also don’t work.
If you send me an email, I could also walk you through how to give me the console log read that I’d need. It’s easy once you know where to click.

New respect for Chatty, catching the following Musikwissenschaft error here. Extra points for not being the D-bag mentioning that Das Lied von der Erde is actually Mahler’s ninth symphony, but he didn’t count it as a symphony for fear of the “curse of the Ninth”…which makes his Ninth his actual Tenth. If anyone’s gonna get D-bag points for that, it’s gonna be me!

Lol wow, it’s not really supposed to correct “the content”, but I didn’t make it explicit either, so I guess it was just eager to correct SOMETHING here, since the sentence itself was pitch perfect.
The new graphic is nice but since is there the button check test doesn t work anymore for me (apple with safari). Hilfe!
You’ll have to clear the browser cache. Safari is particularly obstinate when it comes to updating files that have changed. I can’t trigger that remotely.

Oh, I did that yesterday evening :). It’s really nice to see that people notice and appreciate these little improvements that go kind of below the radar. I’ll do the other AI tools as well and I’m open to suggestions for this one, if you have any. Should I add audio maybe? Like, have the option to hear your sentence?
I like how you reduced the amount of scrolling needed to enter text. Is it possible to similarly reduce the space between the “Check Text” button and the “original sentence/corrected sentence/explanation”?
I appreciate the thoughtfulness required to direct ChatGPT to check input and have a broad range of explanations. You save us the dreadful task of repeatedly setting the parameters for the corrections (**and monthly/annual GPT membership fees**).

Hello, the tool seems to work but the answer stops after a few sentences. Is there a way to say to GPT to continue outputting?
No, people/bots are misusing this if it’s open/unlimited access, so I have to cut it short. It’s not meant to correct texts or paragraphs. Only single sentences.
I can make the allowed answer length a bit longer though, if you think it’s generally too short.
Ahh, understandable. I think there is no need for the output to be longer in this case. I had written a short “A1” level (I suppose lol) email and wanted to check it for any mistakes. I will just input the sentences one by one the next time. Thanks for clarifying!

I was writing a feedback/ completing my child’s kindergarten form and realised the paragraph was cut short so I had to do it several times to get a complete grammar check.
It’s 400 tokens, which is about 300 words.

Hi, OpenAI recently switched their billing method and I now have to buy credits in advance. Which is okay, but apperantly they give ZERO notification when they run out, and instead just stop processing requests. That’s what happened here, so it should work again.

Hallo Emanuel. I’m using your website almost daily, especially the ChatGPT Sentence Correction Tool.
Sometimes the tool is infuriating! For example:“Es vergingen einige Tage, bis sie uns anriefen”is corrected to…“Es vergingen einige Tage, bis sie uns anrieft”
ChatGPT says “The conjugation of the verb ‘anrufen’ in the past tense (Präteritum) should match the subject ‘sie’ (in this case, referring to a singular female ‘she’ rather than plural ‘they’). ‘Anriefen’ is the plural form, while ‘anrief’ is the singular form, which is the correct form needed in this sentence.
I guess it arbitrarily chooses singular female “she” as what I meant to say? Rather than the plural “they” (which was my intention)
But overall, I find it very useful and informative. Thanks again for all your efforts!
Oh yeah, that sounds like a GPt “correction” to make. It’s quite “eager” to make corrections, so it will tend to do stuff like this, and it also sounds a bit bossy about it, which can indeed be infuriating, if you know it’s actually correct.
There’s not much I can do about this unfortunately, except I could offer a sort of chat option where you can ask follow up questions, but I don’t have time for that at the moment :/.
However, you can try and append a disclaimer to the end of the sentence if something like this happens. Just now, I added “(sie is a plural)” to your example and GPT treated it correctly and said there was nothing to correct.
Not a big deal, but I thought I’d let you know – the tool seems to be inserting a period before evaluating the entry. If the user enters a period, the tool flags it as incorrectly containing a double period because the tool inserted a period as well.
Example:
I enter: Ich wohne in einem kleinen Haus (no period)
Tool: There are no mistakes in the original sentence.
I enter: Ich wohne in einem kleinen Haus. (with period)
Tool: Extra punctuation: There was an unnecessary extra period at the end of the sentence.
Does this happen on your side as well?
I did see that, actually. It was a questionable period in the prompt I have constructed. Should work now.

Hallo Emanuel. Thank you for your website. It has helped me get a better grasp of the German language and has helped me learn German.
I hadn’t tried any of the ChatGPT features until the article during the Advent Calendar last month. I use the ChatGPT Sentence Correction Tool every day to check what I want to say and it’s amazing. I also use the ChatGPT Story feature to discover vocabulary for themes I want to know more about that I use frequently in my life. These tools have become essential in my pursuit to learn German and I wanted to take the time to thank you very much.
Unfortunately, I went to use the GPT Sentence tool today and it kept telling me it couldn’t generate a story. I am not sure what has happened but I wanted to let you know.
Thanks again for all your hard work. Your hard work has helped me understand the nuances of the German language much better.

The plan is actually to make these into an app, but I have a bunch of projects in parallel so things take time :).
I screwed up the sentence correction tool on acccident today when I was upgrading my dictionary with ChatGPT, but I think I fixed it now.
Might take a full reload (ctrl+f5), but I had the same bug that you saw and now it’s working again.
Oh, and I also saw that the sentence correction is in bad need of some proper formatting. I’ll fix that right away.
