kennen vs. wissen

The easiest rule of thumb is "wissen" is for sentences, and "kennen" is for nouns and names.

Please write an article about this, including exceptions or special uses! I keep using both interchangeably and my (German) roommates point it out often… I’m aware of it now but still don’t know the exact usage
