Hello everyone, and welcome to Resource Corner – The series where I review German learning tools. And today, I’ll take a look at an app and platform called: FluentU. It started out as a website for learning Chinese, and it has been around for a few years already, so it’s not completely new and they definitely do know what they’re doing. Now they are expanding and want to make more languages available, among them German. What is FluentU Language learners always yearn for real world input. Well… the web is full with real world input. Problem is… real world input is also really difficult because people speak fast and they mumble. So unless you’re already somewhat advanced, watching a random German Youtube video is not that all that much fun. And that’s where FluentU comes in. They take real world video content from the web (mostly youtube) … stuff like Movie trailers or cooking recipes or beauty tips or news or whatever… and they add German subtitles. Not some shitty speech recognition subtitles, but real subtitles, done by people who understand the language. But there’s more. The subtitles are under the video and if you hover over a word, the video…

Hiho! I’ll give this a try: Einroehner rulen! :)
Einhoerner! Aber Einroehner rulen schon auch :)
Einhoerner! Aber Einroehner rulen schon auch :)
Hahaha! How could I have missed the horns there ha in “einhoerner” :-P
Thanks for catching that!
Dear Mr. Emanuel,
This is Kimberly from HelloTalk, a language exchange learning app. I’m leaving this comment wondering if you can take a look at HelloTalk and review it. In HelloTalk there are 116 languages to learn and over one million users who can be your language teacher. Maybe you can have a try and tell your readers whether it’s a good resource for German learning. To know more about it from here: http://www.hellotalk.com, http://www.fluentin3months.com/hellotalk-review/. If you are interested in this, please email me to [email protected]. Thank you.
Best,
Kimberly

Unicorns rule! Link me up !
Otherwise we would never hear the end of it… hahahaha
Good old love-hate rivalaries :)… ich freu’ mich besonders für Miro Klose… der ist so unglaublich bescheiden und bodenständig und hat immer sein bestes gegeben. Der hat’s echt verdient. Und die meisten Tore auch noch… In Ronaldo ‘s face :)
German not yet available.. x
Yeah… they’ll probably roll it out in August :)
Halo! Vielen dank fur Ihr blog! ( I just love long lines eh??? haha sorry… dont know if what i said is ok, im trying) Last question.. do you have a forum somewhere where you can answer question and stuff?? Danke.
– It helped too much
as is
– I wish it would have helped less
:)
The website is very interesting. I find what they classify as beginner vs intermediate vs upper intermediate to be very blurry, so make sure you view everything.
Great tip!! I didn’t check on the different levels. I think it might be just because it’s so new and they be able to classify more precisely later on.

Hi again Emanuel :)
I’m in and I’ve already tested a few of the German lessons. I think they rock!
Thank you for introducing FluentU and keep up the good work with this site.
You, too, rock!
Cool, glad to hear you like it :)

Hi Emanuel, I foolishly missed reading your new post for a couple of days, so I’ve missed out – but just in case there is another round of offers to Beta test – Unicorns rule!
