And today, there’s a special episode waiting for you with a fascinating look at German grammar and spell checking tools. And what makes it super duper extra special is that the episode comes from … drumroll… one of you, the German learners. His name is Scott Meyers and some of you might actually know him, because he is an acclaimed author of several books about the programming language C++. Hello everyone, and welcome to a new episode of ER. On the previous episode, famous playboy and ER surgeon Dr. Emanuel (played by Robert Pattinson) was faced with a tough decision: get the equipment he needs for the brain surgery or finally stand up to his third ex-wife.   Hi everyone, So some of you might know that I am currently getting my driver’s license. Because, you know, this fall I will turn 18, so it’s about time. Nah… okay, I’m not turning 18, of course. But I really am taking driving lessons. In Germany, it is quite expensive to get the license… about 2000 Euro or so, if everything goes well. I never had the money for it and also, owning a car is expensive too, and in Berlin you simply don’t need it. But being able to drive makes a BIG difference when you want to travel somewhere, so that’s mainly why I am doing the license now. Anyway, so I’m actually taking the theory test this week and I REALLY need to prepare so I’m not gonna manage to finish a new article. However, I still have something to share with you A really great method for learning and, funnily enough, I actually found it while learning theory…   So I have this app for studying the 1000+ theory questions and because I don’t want to pay premium (this driving thing is expensive enough as it is) of course it’s full of ads. Review Corner: Drops

  Hello everyone, I hope you all had a great and relaxed Easter. Today we’ll take a look at an app for studying vocabulary. Is it the really the best ever? Of course not, I just said because it’s a catchy headline. But the app has a really great concept.  So let’s take a look. “Studying vocabulary”… ugh. Booooooring. Learning vocabulary sucks and almost everybody hates it. But it is quite important for learning a language and there are many tools and apps out there try to help with it. One of them is Drops.   Drops – learning vocabulary with a twist Drops is an free app for studying vocabulary. The vocabulary is provided by the app and for every word there is an illustration so you’re not bound to one word translations and it offers various modes for the studying like typing the word, or ordering syllables or – and I really like this one –  you are shown the word as well as a super blurry image which you can sharpen by swiping over it with your finger. So you can bit by bit uncover the image and see how quickly you can recognize it. Review Corner: German Men Sit Down to Pee

Really? Do they? Well, I for one do. Like… it’s not like I don’t appreciate the possibility to just whip it out and let go. I do enjoy a good pee outside. But in a bathroom, sitting down is just more comfy. Some quiet time. Quality time. Now you’re probably really confused. Why am I talking about that. Well, today I want to introduce a neat little book to you called: “German men sit down to pee”  The book was written by George R.R. Martin and J.K.Rowling, under their pen names James Cave and Niklas Frank. George… uh… I mean “James” has sent me an email a while ago asking me if I could review it. At first I was like “What the hell George. Could you finish Winds of Winter before starting new books?!” but then I gave it chance and … well… it’s actually pretty cool.

Resource Corner – Intuitive Vocabulary – The Book

Hello everyone, and welcome to a review special. In these specials I review something that has to do with language learning, be it an app or a website or a book. Today it’s a book and it deals with… learning vocabulary. Ugh. Learning vocabulary. That brings back memories… “And on Thursday we’ll do a little vocabulary quizz, so make sure you to learn the words on page 121.” “WHAAAAT? 20 French words in 3 days is too much… oh and why are we speaking English in French class.” I really hated it in school. And I think few people really enjoy it.  Learning vocabulary – the mega chore of language learning. But just like the Super Micro Pore space tested Sponge can clean out burnt milk just without detergent and water the book we’ll look at today can make learning new words as easy as eating… almost.
