Hello everyone, Advent Calendar day ___ , and behind this door is one of the most favorite activities of Germans… recycling. Yes, we love it. We separate our trash into categories and subcategories and put it into color coded containers. Yellow for plastic, green for glass, blue for paper, orange for good mood (this one is always empty), purple for unicorn-related stuff… it’s a complete trash can rainbow in our yards. So today, we’ll do some recycling here and take old content to make a post entirely of old content…. by making a … drumroll please… cartoon slide show. Seriously, most of you know that I usually make a little cartoon for each article. And a while ago I was thinking that it would be kind of cool if you could just flick through them. Either as a little call back or as a sort of thumbnail to the article. I still have to decide how exactly to use them and then I’ll have to do some coding to really integrate it into the archives… haha the archives… sounds like this big stone walled room in the basement of a castle with dusty books… anyways, I eventually decided I’m…

I agree, unsaddle is fine but I thought it would sound better to ‘ I’ll buck you off’. Viele spaß!
I just love the cartoons. Frauenschwarm and the Yoda “weise” vs. the Ausweise still get a good chuckle. The penguin for “dienen” reminds me of the orange trashcans in Berlin with the cute quotes: One was called “The Kippendiener”
Oh, yeah the BSR (Berliner Stadtreinigung) has a great campaign. There are plenty of clever things on the trashcans and some are legit funny (which is unusual for a corporation this size… I mean their ad agency, anyway)
@Manes: It is a bit antiquated, but we do say “unhorse you.”
I took it from dict.cc
weil–
eingehen – to die to perish to fold
?
So, anyone else out there toying with the idea of us (as many as we can be) descending upon Emanuel in Berlin, like a biblical swarm of locusts?
Personally, I think it’s a brilliant plan – we find a date when as many of us as possible can get our butts to Berlin, (Air BnB, Adlon, Park Hyatt, Tent), visit the Ampelmännchen Gift Shop, do Check Point Charlie, spend some quality time at the Art Museum, and then…
Dunn dunn DUNN dunn…
Meet up with Emanuel somewhere cool! Between us, we should be able to cover his drinks and nibbles, we can subject Berlin to OUR version of German and just suck in the vibes and feel all global, kinda like the expats in Paris in the 1920’s but we’ll be in Berlin in 2019.
We can even do an “orientation” thingy in Berlin or en Egg Hunt or something. Ema will fix it for us – he’s real smart. And Creative. And there can be a prize. I love prizes.
So, whaddya all say?
Manes, you can supply the horses.
Unsaddle you, for the one riding the Western horse, is not right. You “unsaddle“ the horse. The horse “throws“ you. You aren’t wearing a saddle.
Sorry, horse person here.
Another horse person here to second that. The horse can, however, “unSEAT” the rider.
Best go with “throw you” or “buck you off”. (Or just say nothing, if nobody saw you…maybe turn your jacket inside out to hide the muddy part. Of COURSE I have never done this! My horse is a perfect angel at all times)
Damn, how many horse people are there around here :)
Ugh… redoing a cartoon is my nightmare (get it? My horse pun?)
Schimmel und Schummel
WHERE’S THE BEEF? This stuff tastes like Einhorn!
Wessie Lasagna Witz –
Was läuft so spät durch Nacht und Wind?
Ein deutscher Schimmel getarnt als RIND!
Ossie Lasagna Witz-
Guten Appetit !

Well done!!! Are you sure you’re not a native speaker of German ;)? Your level of pun and satire seems native German to me!!
Hi,
Just to let you know I loooooooooove the cartoons, I always look forward to them every time you write a new article! The one with ballerina for “peinlich” is one of my favourites! Shame they can’t be downloaded as image files, I once tried to download the one with “fishing is boring, I think I’ll learn German” to use as my desktop background, but wasn’t able…
BTW, I’ve dropped you an e-mail as well!
Bis morgen!
Still wondering why it’s “hat” and not “konnte” on one of yesterday’s -halten variations.
I want it to be:
Why HAT and not KONNTE, when the original que was …”because he COULDN’T take the bad jokes anymore”
Ops, forgot about that one…
– “ausgehalten konnte”… this is wrong because you’re using a ge-form and a real past of a modal together.
– “aushalten konnte”… this is grammatically correct and would be the closer translation to English but it’s not that idiomatic in German.
Think of “etwas nicht aushalten” as “to not be able to stand something”
OK, so the “can’t” part is an integral part of the “aushalten”. I’m guessing that a regular “kann” (ausgehalten kann) wouldn’t work either, then, or you woulda mentioned it.
Gonna hammer the “can’t” as an integral part of “aushalten” in meinen Kopf (direction, ackusativ I hope).
Danke, Dude!
Hmmm… better modify that and remember that “nicht aushalten” is “can’t stand”. It’s a different story in the affirmative.

seid Bereit!
Wer hier verkehrt, verkehrtverkeht ! You were waiting for that – nicht wahr?
Stimmt!! Die ganze Welt sitzt in der Klemme beziehungsweise mit Klima Kriege Katastrophe Hungersnot Schwindel und Schummel Ausbeutung Angeberei “Dagobert” Fake News Amazon Handys und und und….
FRAGE:

https://yourdailygerman.com/leid-leider-leiden-meaning/
Ich bin sehr ungebildet, was Kunst angeht (speziell Literatur)
LOS ist Landkreis Oder-Spree soweit ich weiß. Ein Verwaltungsbezirk.
A veritable rainbow of trash cans – that killed me!
Great idea with the cartoons – they are always really good and seeing them in a searchable collection that will link me to an article is very appealing indeed.
Hi, I’ve sent Emanuel an e-mail as well :)
Bis morgen!
