Hello everyone,
day 24 of the Advent Calendar, which means… it’s Christmas. Hooray!!!
And while usually I don’t do anything on the 24th, except wishing you a nice Chirstmas, this year, I actually do have a little Christmas present (at least for those of you, who are using the Chrome browser).
The YourDailyGerman dictionary browser add-on
It’s basically the dictionary from the site here, but you can use it in the convenient chrome sidepanel while you are reading other websites.
Just mark a word and either right click and search or it shows up in the search form automatically and all you have to do is click search :)

Note that this ONLY works in Chrome and Brave browser. You may be able to “install” it in Edge and Opera and maybe even Safari, but it won’t work, as they do not have this sidepanel that Chrome has.
As soon as they add one, we’ll do a version of this extension for other browsers as well. And of course, I’ll slowly add more features and eventually, you’ll be able to read and add your own notes there as well.
But yeah, that’s my little present. Let me know how you like it and please leave a review if you do like it.

I really hope you enjoyed the Advent season, and I wish you all a wonderful, relaxed Christmas time with lots of good food, nice presents that you actually like and no weird family arguments.
And to those who don’t celebrate Christmas, I wish you a happy normal time without stress and too much work.
And to those who can’t celebrate, because they have to work… I mean…. it sucks, but it’s going to be okay. Spending three days over Christmas at home isn’t this great anyways. The first day is nice, but the third is quite boring. Seriously though, I wish you relaxed shifts with not too many crazy things happening.
So yeah… have a terrific weekend and week everyone and I’ll see you after the holidays!

Really? That’s strange, maybe because I did an update yesterday and that takes a while to be approved by Google. Could you try again?

I downloaded the extension but it’s not working for me in the latest version of Chrome (just updated to be sure). Right-clicking and selecting “Look up in YDG Dictionary” does nothing. So I manually opened the sidebar and clicked on the YDG dictionary, but when I hit Search it says “result.forEach is not a function.”
Argh… I’ll look into it soon and keep you updated.
It looks like perhaps this error only happens when a word is not in the YDG dictionary, for example ausgezeichnete with “e” at the end.
Yeah, that’s it. I already had a version that didn’t do this, but since a few days and changes the error is back again. I’ll fix it soon.
Oops, I didn’t notice that because I only tried looking up two words before giving up! If the error is only when the word is not there, that’s not so bad.
I’m also having the “result.forEach is not a function” error, but it’s not consistent. For example, looking up “Weihnachten” at the end of this post brings up the error, but “Schöne” returns the result completely fine.

“Guten Rutsch” is what you say before new years to wish people a good transition into the new year. This is for after Christmas :)

For adjectives, it’s better to use the base form, so “toll” in this case :)
