is the meaning of der stand about things like position, place, qualities and status?
Good question, I have to add that word.
“der Stand” is about “where something is” but only in a figurative sense. So the “current location” of a project or negotiations or as you said, the status of a person in society. It’s NOT for physical locations.
It can also be a “stand” on a market, a little piece of furniture that you “put” something on, and a word for how you “stand” on the floor (think of Yoga, for instance).
