how would you translate this sense of self-conscious though then?
the teenager is self-conscious – like shy and not at ease socially because they are awkwardly monitoring themselves in a hyper vigillant way in relation to a social situation.
Very good question.
I had to look at a dictionary because I couldn’t think of anything “one word”. Dict.cc has a few suggestions and of those I like “unsicher” the best. “gehemmt” is also okay, but people might well say “denkt zu viel nach.”
thanks : )
