ALRIGHT, 7 out of 8 correct, and I never learned the difference until I read your first article on Contractions a few days ago, way to go, that’s how you explain grammar to someone, not through charts and stifled books.
Thanks a lot for all the hard work.
Have a wonderful day everyone.
Maybe it just wasn’t an issue for you :). I have never thought about this before someone asked in a comment, actually.
Anyway, dir auch einen schönen Tag :)
Oh wow, I got 100%. I must have been paying attention to your earlier post more than I thought!
Or it was a non-issue for you to begin with :D. Either way, congratulations!
100%!? What can I say? I’m so happy, I usually do so very badly on your quizzes. Oh, and by the way, Roger is not the only desperately embarrassed Europhile in Britain. I also send 10,000 apologies for Brexit.
@ Dorcas. I quite agree. Whatever were the voting Brits at home thinking??
Just out of curiosity though, who do you apologize to? The EU? I’m really wondering.
Or is it just an expression of the typical British politeness?
Lots of people who don’t like Brexit apologize and I don’t understand to whom :)
68% but I can see where I went wrong
Whoa! 8 outta 8! WHooHoo!
Not bad for a girl that is so unsure about so much grammar!
This one made my day. But, I really gotta work on when to use “der, die, das” as opposed to “er, sie, es”.
As in, Der Tisch ist neu. Er/Der ist auch hässlich. z.B.
And:
Mein Bruder kommt am Montag. Er/Der kommt immer zu spät.
You can apply the same principle. “er” is much less pointy than “der”. So you’d only use “der” if you really need to point.
Oopps, nur 5 von 8 erreicht..
Is doch ok :)
Hallo Emmanuel
Das Quiz, das sich am Ende fast jeder Lektion befindet, ist eine sehr gute Idee von dir and ist sehr nützkich, indem es Lehrenden wie mich viel hilft, was wir gelernt haben zu verstärken.
Danke :). Kleine Korrektur:
– … lernenden wie MIR (nicht mich)
The quiz is super. Not that I did well – I didn’t. But just thinking about your examples helped me a bunch!
That’s great then. Maybe just take it again in a few days and see if you improved.
I got 75% (above average) after reading the explanation article, but how can I tell which ones I really knew from ones which were a lucky guess?
Well, the ones you knew, you knew. You can argue your decision. Or did you mean that you can’t see the correct answers?
I mean that I am not sure whether the ones I got right were :-
1. Real knowledge, or
2. Just a lucky guess :-)
In other words I am not sure that I know the real reasons why I was right.
So maybe the quiz answers needed a reason to be given, so that the written reasons could be verified by you independently, during your free time on Christmas Day, or while eating your Christmas dinner !!!
Seriously your Advent efforts are outstanding. If I was French I would award you the Legion of Honour !! Being British I can only offer you a thousand apologies for Brexit.
Why is the answer to No. 6 ins instead of in das? I would have thought that at least it should be that both work.
I got 6 out of 8 correct. No. 3 was wrong too, but I was too careless and hasty in answering, and I can see that the given answer is what I should have chosen.
If you say “in das” it sounds like you want to stress that it’s one toilet in particular as opposed to other toilets.
But here, the main message is that it’s a toilet, presumably the one at home.
Does that help :)?
I did horribly. 3 out of 8
Have you read the article before? And do you have an idea why you did terrible?
I did read the article and had the point principals in mind
For example, the bath water one. I chose in dem as opposed to both beacuse, we are really taking about particular water
And it’s correct. Where did you go wrong?
Mabye I haven’t focused enough. I did it once more and this time I got 7 out of 8. A great impro i suppose, but notbreall since I had some of them stored in my brain. The last sentence though. Why is it both?
It’s not! Have you focused on the answers at all? It’s never both in this quiz.
I am pretty sure I saw both. Weird. I gotta sharpen my memory
Toll!
Ah, sorry. Ich habe sie jetzt dazugemacht.
Hi,
Ok, I decided to wing it without reading the article and got a pretty lousy score. No point asking questions here, at least not before I read the article on this subject ;)
One suggestion: what do you think if us (i.e. your extremely loyal and wonderful blog followers) ask you for a specific article (one per person) we’d like you to write as a Xmas present? Maybe you could then see what’s highest on the wishlist and perhaps write it next year (after a long, well deserved break)?
Bis morgen
**** if we (I’m correcting my own typo before someone else does!)
Hmmm, that’s an idea, but how do I make this into a poll? I don’t want an open question because people will write all kinds of words. And also, I wouldnt know which one is top rated.
Evaluate suggestions based on some creatria
How much is used?
Does the ideas it present have a usaglly more idiomatic synonym?
Even if it’s rare, can it be used funnily and creatively?
Usefulness in other areas apart from real life? Like sitting a prüfung and you need to impress the examiner or mabye its has some nice idioms, proverbs and pick up lines ;)
And other questions you can think of. Answer those questions. Give a rating out of 10. The ones with best average rating pass. Let’s say the top 7 words.
People now can vote on 2 words out of 3 seven.
The top 3 words of voting stage one pass on to stage 2. Another vote where ppl can only vote once. Finally, the winner is crowned.
You should also sit a limit for words. For example, the first 20 people to comment will be considered
Well, congratulations, you’ve just described the thought process before I take up a new topic. But I don’t want to systemize that. Do you know how much time that would take ?! No deal ;)
Side note… restrictions based on who reads it first are super unfair :).
Well, you don’t have to be as detailed when giving the scores here as a normal word of the week.
Yeah, restrictions are unfair, but that’s why we give a good number. ;)
It’s up to you in the end.
Well….I’m way below average but way higher this time than other quizzes. ; ) Danke für alle, Emmanuel!!!!!!! =)
Camille
P.S. Apparently I could’ve used more contractions than I thought I could.
Ha, sounds like you were extra cautios :).
