sobald

Based on: so
Goethe B1 Adverb
1.

as soon as

(Makes the verb go to the end. It does NOT work with "just" a noun, like "as soon as Monday" for example. The best translation for that depends on context.)
Examples
  • Sobald die Sonne aufgeht, werde ich spazieren gehen.
  • As soon as the sun rises, I will go for a walk.

“Bitte euch an den Farbe von den Produkten auf den Bildern orientieren, sobald ihr an den neuen Bildern arbeitet”

So i was composing an email earlier and got a collegue to quickly proof-read it. In place of sobald i had “wann”.
I think wenn was discussed, but this sounded wrong to me like “if” which isn’t the case as the images will get worked on.

So I think this is me partly misunderstanding “wenn”. Sobald was suggested but this sounds a bit more “pushy” to me, but that could just be me understanding it via english “as soon as”.

1) I was incorrect about wenn right?

2) is it good to avoid sobald if you don’t want to sound pushy?

Nah, ‘wenn’ would be a normal ‘when(ever)’ here. ‘sobald’ also works but it has some urgency or immediacy that isn’t really needed if you think about the actual context. ‘as soon as’ is a good match vibe-wise.
It’s not really that it’s pushy in German, but it implies someone has to take IMMEDIATE action the second they start working on the new images and what you want is that they take continuous action while they’re at it.

Thanks. This wenn /wann thing is definitely a basic thing from early on that i never really properly learnt. Gonna have to look at it properly….

I see sobald is classified as an adverb here, but i had it from other dictdionaries as a conjunction. Is there an argument over which classification it is?
