love menscheln, will try to use it in the near future
If you can drop this at the right moment, people will be very impressed. Feel free to try an example context here in the comments and I’ll give you feedback.
Die Würde des Menschen is(t) unantastbar. ;)
Ups, hab ich ein “t” vergessen? In such a noble sentence :). But hey… I kind of feel temped to leave it. Having a sentence like that in colloquial language somehow gives it even more power because it’s not a detached concept.
Not sure if I’m making sense XD
Love it! I think “humanize” is a good equivalent, although it’s transitive, so e.g. Merkel’s interview humanizes her, Streep’s performance humanizes Thatcher, etc. “Es menschelt” – fascinating…
From the sound of it, “wobbly” is good for “kippeln” when it refers to unsteady furniture.
One of the funny little bits of Denglish my American teammates and I all use here comes from “kippen”: “ein Fenster ankippen/auf Kippe stellen” doesn’t really translate, since American windows generally don’t work that way, so you’d often hear among us the following: “It’s a bit stuffy in here – mind if I kip the window?”
Ha… love it. And it blends in perfectly. Spread the word! Maybe in 10 years I can buy a “kip window” at Amazon :)
Will there be updates to your german daily
word blog?
I like it.
Tschuss,
Ray
Definitely… I manage to write about one article per week. Some will be lectures but I think 3 out of 4 are words so there is more to come :)
