1. to put on/at (In the sense of putting something so that it's "at" something else. Like a shelf on a wall or a sticker onto a bottle.)
2. to add (For spices and other ingredients. A bit colloquial. Cookbooks tend to use "hinzugeben" or something similar but in normal kitchens, "ranmachen" is perfect.)
3. to hit on somebody ("sich+Acc ranmachen an ". This is about getting closer, trying to move to first base, so it's a bit more aggressive than just "anmachen".)
is the same verb as daranmachen?
If not does daranmachen mean something like start to do/ take a turn to do?
“is it the same verb”
That’s a tough question to answer. Technically no, but you could also make a case for yes. You have to decide in your head how you want to group them.
For this pair, I’d say they’re separate.
“sich daranmachen, xyz zu tun”
This means that you start doing something, but it’s not about taking a turn.
“ranmachen” and also “dranmachen” would not work in this sense.
Thank you, very helpful :)
