A question: if you do a course at a university (like i did in the uk) but its not as high a qualification as a degree can still refer to it as a “Studium”?
Or if you say “Studium” do people automatically think Bachelor, masters or higher?
The certificate is a “Diploma” so i guess i have no issues referring to it a Diplom
“a course” sounds like one lecture series to me, which is absolutely NOT a “Studium” in my book. I wouldn’t even call a Bachelor’s degree a “Studium” but that’s just because I have the old school view of universities being a place where only 30 or 40% of the population go. Much of bachelor’s degrees to me are more like doing an apprenticeship. Nothing wrong with that. I just think “Studium” should be something hard that NOT everyone can do intellectually and as a personality.
I’m also pretty sure there is a HUGE difference between an actual Diplom and a “diploma”. A Diplom, as I know it, is en par with a Master’s degree. You used to need 4 years of university to get one.
I’m not sure as to how far it’s a protected title by itself though, so I wouldn’t be surprised if some random influencer’s online course also ends with a “diploma”.
In your case, it really depends on what it is that you’re doing. If they call what you get a Diplom, then great, but be ready for some Germans completely misunderstanding it.
And I would recommend against calling it Studium. People do think of at least a Bachelor’s.
Weiterbildung, Fortbildung, Ausbildung, Qualifizierung, Kurs… there are plenty of options :)
ok, cool, thanks. I’ll definitely avoid calling it either a “Studium” or “Diplom” so it doesn’t seem like i’m exagerrating any qualifications…
