My favorite source for the origin of English words.
wondering about the phrase “Von meinem Standpunkt aus gesehen”
Does it work in a literal sense or is it more about opinions?
Like “From where i was standing I could not see him sneak past the window” or something like that?
Does it work for “from what i saw”
deep L suggests ” Nach dem, was ich gesehen habe”
Or is “Soweit ich gesehen habe” a better translation for “from what i saw” ?
Yeah, that fits well if “for what I saw” roughly lines up with “as far as I saw”
To me, it’s DEFINITELY opinion.
It may be used for actual location and point of view as well, but that’s not the normal reading and in daily life people would say things like “Von wo ich war” for actual location.
