Meanings

1.
to gross, to bring in
(Technical term for movies and musicals bringing in money. They "play it in".)
2.
to record
(Playing music in a recording studio or for a recording. Note that it's the PLAYING, not the recording that matters here.)
3.
to cue, to load
(For the idea of "running" short clips during a show or presentation. Usually done by a technician "playing" the stuff from the back.)
4.
to warm up
("sich+Acc einspielen" - In the context of a game.)
5.
to become attuned to (one another)
("sich+Acc einspielen auf+Acc" - in the sense of becoming a good efficient team. )
