to play the start
(For playing musical pieces and theater. It's about playing just the beginning, maybe for a sound check.)
2.
to play to someone
(Acting jargon when you focus your energy as an actor on the other person in the scene.)
3.
to pass to
(Playing a pass to someone (in sports).)
4.
to allude to, to hint at
("anspielen auf+Acc" - quite commonly used in daily life. ONLY for people alluding to something, not for some facts alluding to something.)
