I went to the bank today and the guy started to try to sell me an insurance policy for “Schaden”. Is “Schaden” in this context understood as something quiet specific or is it rather broad / vague?

Lol, no idea. I guess it was Haftpflichtversicherung, which is an insurance that pays when you create accidental “damage” to someone else’s property. Like, when a plant pot from your balcony falls on your neighbor’s car.
I’d say it was something rather broad.
