Meanings

1.
to latch open, to snap open
(For a lock or buckle or clasp that suddenly springs open. "Aufspringen" is more common. Spoken past is built with "sein".)
2.
to pick up
(Colloquial term for picking up information or learning a small skill. Sounds quick and casual. Like something you just come across by chance and you take it.)
