abkommen (von)

Meanings

1.
to veer off, to come off
(It's about (involuntarily) getting of the path. Pretty much always used in combination with "Weg" or "Straße". Or "Thema" in a conversation.)
2.
to abandon
(For ideas and plans. Same idea as the first one, but used in a figurative sense of "getting off" the path of an idea, and it's voluntarily this time. )
