Hi Emanuel :) What is the difference between ändern and verändern?
Btw, your first appearance on the Easy German podcast is my favorite episode so far (over 200 episodes later). “…ein Armutszeugnis für Deutschland! Dein Ernst!”
Ha, yeah, Manuel and me, we have good “argument chemistry” :).
So “ändern” vs “verändern” is a topic I have been avoiding for years because it is really hard to say. I feel like “ändern” is focused on one specific issue or feature while verändern can be more “all encompassing”, but it’s also closer to “modifying”.
Ich ändere die Richtung.
I change the direction.
(one aspect changed)
Ich verändere die Richtung.
I change/alter/modify the direction.
(also one aspect here, but maybe just a variation)
Ich habe mich geändert.
I changed. (that one thing that you complained about)
