Die Wahl des jeweils angemessenen Pronomens wird durch gesellschaftliche Normen bestimmt

I stuggle a little bit to understand what jeweils is actually doing often. The above sentence is an example.

Deep L offers:

The choice of the appropriate pronoun is determined by social norms

so it seems to remove jeweils.

hmmm, it seems confusing clumsy and superflous to me, but I guess thats cus i’m not a native speaker ; )

Does this not communicate the same thing?

i started thinking about “respecitively”
and then checked linguee which does offer it as an option. It also offers “in each case” which sounds much better to me. I guess “in each instance” works too.

I think the position of jeweils is also a bit confusing for

Do you think this works as a translation:

“in each instance the selection of the appropriate pronoun is determined by social norms”

it sounds good to me, at least from the point of view of english -whether it exactly nails the meaning i don’t know

to me this doesn’t sound good, the meaning seems a bit off, I can’t quiet figure out why :

“the selection of each appropriate pronoun is determined by social norms”

I don’t think “situationally” would work, but “in a given situation” might.

  • The choice of which pronouns to use in a given situation is determined by social norms.

I think “which” does some of the work of pointing at the pronouns and saying “hey, there are different possible options depending on the situation.”
