Hallo ihr alle,
Thanks for all your feedback again, it's been really helpful and detailed. Much appreciated.
I have some news, and also a new version of my plugin with a slightly new installation guide, so here we go :)
Plugins vs App
Some of you saw "plugins", some saw "apps". In my last email I said "apps" was the more current one but NOPE. Joke's on me.
OpenAI has renamed this stuff to Plugins, so if that's what you saw, you had the more up to date version.
Under the hood, it's the same stuff, but the menu and way to install is a little different.
But let me tell you what new features and bug fixes I have first.
Bug Fixes
Before, the "connect to YourDailyGerman" button on the install screen did not work. Now it does. Well... it should.
New Features
When you've connected your YourDailyGerman account (and you're a member of my site) you can now do two things:
Your stash is a list of words you have "bookmarked". It's been around for a while, but I'm now slowly rolling it out more.
Basically, it's the first step of you being able to build vocabulary decks and collections on YDG and exporting them to Anki or practicing them on site.
You can now add a word you come across in ChatGPT that it shows from my dictionary and then it'll show up in your vocabulary here:
So that's one feature and the other is this:
- Add your own notes to meanings
One of the cool things about my dictionary (I think) is the option for you to add your own notes to each meaning... so you can add customize the dictionary over time and add all kinds of hints or comments for yourself, which you'll also be able to export to Anki eventually.
Well... you can now also add these notes from right in the ChatGPT window. So you could talk to chatty, come across a new word, it gets looked up in my dictionary, you ask chatty a couple of follow up questions about it and then you add a "note to self" and boom... it's right there on YourDailyGerman and your vocabulary collection.
The notes are right now size limited to 1500 characters. It's not meant for loads of examples, it's just meant for this one comment about usage or meaning that you need to really nail it :).
All right, so these are the new features that you test out and play around with. You DO need a YourDailyGerman membership for them. And you need to reinstall the former app, now plugin, because if you don't, chatGPT will work with old files.
How to install - Quick guide
First, you have to enable developer mode. Otherwise you cannot add custom plugins that aren't officially out yet. You can find this setting in the security tab.
Next, you go to the plugins tab.
You'll see a whole lot of options that are already officially out as "public". Next to it, is a tab called "personal" which is where the Chatgpt plugin/app lives and should already be listed if you installed it.
Next to the search field, you can see a + symbol, which is where you can add NEW custom plugins.
!!! PLEASE ADD A NEW YDG DICTIONARY and disconnect/delete the old one, on !!!
Use this name instead of YourDailyGerman dictionary. By doing this, you can type in chat "@ydg (your question about a word meaning)" and ChatGPT is much more likely to actually use my tool.
Description:
Looks up words in the YourDaiyGerman (YDG) dictionary, add notes about meanings and save them to your deck.
Connection:
https://ydg-mcp.yourdailygerman.workers.dev/mcp
Authentification:
MIXED (!!important)
Then, you get asked if you want to connect to your YourDailyGerman account. Click yes, and you shoud be good to go.
Please disconnect and delete the old version, or ChatGPT will be confused with the two tools.
Try to save a word to your deck and see if it shows up on your list in my site
And try to add a note somewhere and check if it shows up when you look up the word in my dictionary or see it in your vocabulary :)
Fingers crossed it works for you like it did for me.
Danke euch und viele Gruesse
