YourDailyGerman is coming to ChatGPT

***

Hi everyone,

I need you... well... some of you as beta testers for one of my current projects!

What I am Working On

There are like 5 different things I'm working on at the same time at the moment but one of the ones I'm most excited about is ME and my site coming to ChatGPT.

Many of you use ChatGPT for learning German, be it for explanations or to practice chatting.
And you come across a lot of vocabulary that way.

Of course you can always ask ChatGPT about it, but there's always this lingering doubt:

"Is this correct? Is this complete?"

So my idea is that instead of relying on ChatGPT, you have access to my YourDailyGerman dictionary, right there within the chat.
You can see the translations I made, along with the usage notes that I often add AND also YOUR usage notes.

As members, you have the option to add your own notes to dictionary entries with whatever matters to YOU and these will also show in ChatGPT. And you can also add and edit them there eventually and it'll show up on YourDailyGerman as well.

I've not yet finished the more personalized features but the basics already work. Here's how it looks.

Basically, I just asked ChatGPT "What does ausgehen mean?" and instead of winging it, it gets the answer straight from my dictionary and shows it in a nice card instead of the boring chat.
Next things I will add are:

  • you can edit your notes there and have the show on YourDailyGerman
  • you can create new cards for words that are not in my dictionary yet and save them
  • You can access your decks (which are coming soon)
  • you can go over your flashcards and decks right there in chatGPT and you can always ask something or tell chatty to do a short practice based on a deck or something like that
But what's finished so far is the looking up words and also, ChatGPT will create a card for a word that I haven't covered yet and show you that instead of the boring chat.

This is where I'm at currently, and now I need some of you to test it and tell me what works and what doesn't and what features you'd like to see.

Become a Beta Tester

If you want to try this out and help me refine it, you can become a beta tester.
Here are the "requirements":

  • You have a YourDailyGerman membership (needed for when I add the personalized stuff)
  • You use ChatGPT regularly for learning
  • You use my dictionary every now and then at least
  • You find this exciting :)
And last but not least:

  • You're slightly tech savvy
To beta test this, you will have to activate this feature in ChatGPT. It's not difficult, but it's a small step by step walk through process that I'll give you and if walking through menus makes you anxious, then this is not the right thing for you maybe. You're of course welcome to take the leap, but yeah... there is a tiny 3 minute bit of setup currently.

But yeah:

If you meet the "requirements" and you want to become a tester,
just reply to this email.

Can't wait to hear about all the ways it fails from you :).

Seriously... I'm pumped!!!

Have a great weekend and talk soon.

Emanuel
