“German Humor I like”
Hello everyone,
And welcome to day number 12 of the Advent Calendar. And behind today’s door is
An Artist
A cartoon artist, to be precise, whose work has heavily inspired how I started out making cartoons for my articles here back when I was still stitching together pencil drawn elements.
Today, I want to introduce you to him, because he was such an influence for me, and I still find him funny in a subversive way even after almost 30 years.
And if you like cartoons, it might be a nice source to learn with, at least if you’re B1 or higher.

Ich liebe dieses Cartoons von Kriki und seinen Humor. …Aber ich bin ja auch halb Deutscher.
I quite like these! The mammoths remind me of the classic “Are we there yet?” whine from the kid in the back seat of the car on a family vacation. But with a real twist. And the password one. OK, I did like them all.
That’s the idea – the German kid in the car would be saying “Wie lange müssen wir noch fahren?” I think the only way to translate the joke into English and have it land would be to have the mammoth kid saying “Are we extinct yet?”
Emmanuel, how can we find previous posts? I’ve been looking for the one about the word for unexpected extra customer service…(I experienced some a couple of days ago at the Goethe Haus in Frankfurt. :)

Ich habe etwas über deutschen Humor gelernt watching classic Loriot cartoons and his films Ödipussi und Papa ante Portas. Can you recommend other classic German comedians that I can find on Youtube? Many thanks for always making me laugh or at least smile whenever I read your posts!
I don’t really have suggestions unfortunately. I thoroughly dislike most of German stand-up comedy and most TV comedians noadays are AWFUL. Maybe you can check out Hape Kerkeling. Never was my thing, but his stuff is intelligent and has a heart.
