Hallo ihr alle,

Erstmal danke an euch alle fuer das Feedback bisher.
Thanks a lot to all of you for the feedback so far.

I already got some insights and I want to share some of them here.

Plus Subscription Needed

Apparently, you need a plus subscription for ChatGPT to have the option to add custom apps.
You do NOT need the expensive Pro subscription, but looks like you do need at least "plus".
If you don't have it, please DO NOT get it just for testing my tool. No need to spend your money on something you wouldn't have before.
And also, having a plus subscription doesn't mean that you have the tool. And do NOT upgrade to Pro, even if ChatGPT tells you it's necessary. It is NOT. I do not have Pro and I can install my custom app just fine.

Not everyone has the feature

Apparently, not every ChatGPT account is the same. Some of you do not have the "app" option AT ALL. Instead, you see "plugins".
This may be an older iteration of their "app" feature and I think one of you could "install" my dictionary as a plugin using the exact same steps I described. But I'm not sure because I have the "app" option and not the "plugin" option.

As far as I understand, we have no control over which features our chatGPT account has, so if you don't see the App option, it's not your fault and also there's nothing you can do. Just try plugin and let me know if it worked.

The Dictionary does NOT get used reliably

So it turns out that ChatGPT has written a note to self that I want it to use the dictionary tool whenever I ask about the meaning of something.
So for me, it calls my dictionary ALL the time.

But you don't have this note of course, and it turns out that ChatGPT doesn't always try to use my dictionary, even if you tell it to.

You could try by telling it explicitly to ALWAYS try and use the YourDailyGerman lookup app when you ask for a meaning of a German word.
That should improve the hit rate quite a bit, but there is NEVER a guarantee unfortunately.

Login Issue

So, the login option via the chat seems to work, but the login option that you have directly when you install the app does not. That's for me to fix, so for now, please ignore that and go "use without account" if you get asked about it.

Query type

The tool is a dedicated lookup for words with their meanings in my dictionary. It is NOT a general query type of tool against my site and knowledge base.
When you ask a more freeform question like "difference between X and Y, use YourDailyGerman" it'll maybe do a live check of my website or maybe not. But it is NOT the tool :)

How to know when the tool is used

Anything that chatGPT says in chat is NOT my app at work. The app is at work if the chat says "calling tool..." or something and then a window opens and renders within the chat that contains the dictionary entry. Anything else is ChatGPT ignoring my tool.

Thoughts so far

The project seemed fairly simple but so far it turns out quite the pain in the behind because of how inconsistent and unreliable the behavior and ChatGPT itsef is.

If you expect my dictionary to come up and it comes up 8 out of 10 times, that's already HUGELY frustrating two times of failure, so yeah... if you feel like "Meh, not impressed" ... I feel the same :)

Anyway, just wanted to share this, so you all know what's up and can contextualize what you're seeing when you try to use the tool.

Schoene Woche euch und bis bald.
Emanuel
